Mission
Our mission is to increase obtainable employment and contracting opportunities generated by two broad categories of the U.S. Department HUD. To empower our residents of Hamilton County to understand J-RAB's mission of protecting and advocating for the concerns/issues of all residents with knowledge, patience, and supportive approaches when dealing with low to moderate-income residents in Hamilton County thru focused policies which include assisting participants in upgrading their skills and abilities to obtain active employment, economic striving, self-sufficiency, and legacy building understanding and due diligence.
J-RAB's Vision is to also collectively protect tenant's rights with a no-nonsense approach while promoting self-determination to resolve any issues and to also encourage a sense of humor as we strive to bring a smile to each resident's face with every interaction.
STORY
J-RAB Inc’s original resident leaders began their advocacy through volunteering and having a sincere concern for better living conditions, safe and sanitary housing. From those concerned involved the following empowerment activities:
- 2005 through 2007 with HUD tenant funds J-rab incorporated successfully supported the development of multiple tenant organizations through volunteer support efforts only.
- July 11th, 2007 incorporated as a 501 c 3 tax-exempt “Tenant” owned and operated entity.
- In 2008 Inc. apply for its first Resident Opportunity Self Sufficiency Ross Grant through the Department of Housing and Urban Development ( HUD) and received the largest Ross Grant award in Ohio in July of 2009.
- From 2009 - 2021 J-RAB hired staff and facilitated the implementation of very low to moderate-income resident service coordination, tenant rights advocacy, provider networking, and Ross Grant continuation of awards for self-sufficiency. The combined award equaled 2.5 million over 11 years.
- In 2014 J-RAB also received a planning Grant from the Finance Fund to do a feasibility study to facilitate and Implement a micro-mini incubator in Stanley Rowe Towers A, one of the public housing high rises, in the West End of Cincinnati.
- In 2016 J-RAB established a business and Service Coordination Center in Stanley Rowe Towers in place of the business incubator to abide by HUD guidelines.
- From 2007 to the present (2023) has developed multiple alliances, including locally -The Legal Aid Society, CMHA, CPD, Job Corps, The Crossroads Center, United Way of Greater Cincinnati, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, and National Low Income Housing Coalition, the Housing Board the Department of Housing and Urban Development ( HUD) services and National Low Income Housing Board the housing Justice Network, Motivation Inc. and the National Community Investment Coalition.
- The expectations for the Ross program included assisting very low to moderate-income residents to increase their earned income new access to education Holistic Health Services; OJT training and employment opportunities; reducing their needs for welfare assistance: and helping very low to moderate-income families.
Our mission is to increase obtainable employment and contracting opportunities generated by two broad categories of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) programs. We use the economic opportunities generated by HUD to produce business development opportunities and jobs for the residents of Hamilton County.
Our objective is to facilitate the fulfillment of Section 3 regulations (HUD) that apply to contracting and employment opportunities, and cash flow growth through the ability to offer sustained and affordable training, grants, active fundraising, equity financing, crowdfunding, and angel investors for and with its targeted clientele.
